excited for the desktop app!
For all the Nostr developers out there I challenge you to use your apps in manual approve mode ( no automatic signing ) with a signer like alby or amber. I'm willing to bet it will be almost unusable
I would say at least half of the apps I've seen built on Nostr just don't work unless you give the app full control over your key, by either pasting the nsec or giving it automatic signing privlages.
This is bad UX and shows that the app does not respect the user at all. What's the point of having cryptographic signatures if I can only uses them in "sign everything" mode?
I will zap you 10k SATs if you post a screenshare in the next day or so of how well the app works or doesn't work with manual signing

Oh that's why you zapped me, for a demo. You never cared about my macroeconomic observations! [throws Nostr at the wall]

Yes! Great direction
Serious though, been thinking about this myself. Feels like just by using an app there are certain things that a user is implicitly agreeing to sign, to get them to re-confirm might be redundant. As a setting cool, but I wonder how many people would turn it on? I'm pretty sure like 99.9% of Nostr users approve things forever on first ask.
The user needs to manually enable this feature. Knowing that users have this option, Mini App developers are expected to request signatures more reasonably. We are also curious about the frequency at which Mini Apps request signatures. This is a very simple feature that didn't take much development time and has not impacted other development tasks.
That's a good point. I think for critical events it can be good. @Niel Liesmons has some beautiful designs for the signer approval popup.
"Signing = most expensive task"

Let's trend toward less signing requests in smaller apps and better daily rivers :rocketship:
