HELLO NOSTR! βοΈ
Spent the lots of recent weekends and evenings putting together a new Nostr educational site.
My plan is to continue to add to this to cover loads of other awesome Nostr clients and tools to help people get started. (and for you awesome people to share with your friends!)
For now we have:
π£ Simple onboarding via @primal
π£ Nostr 101
π£ Nostr protocol explainer
π£ Nostr glossary
π£ An intro to 'other stuff'
π£ An intro to Nostr utilities
π£ Some incredible video content from @BTC Sessions, @Derek Ross and @npub1f7pt...nerm
It's early days and there's lots more to come. Project is on GitHub, and I welcome feedback, suggestions and external contributors.
Would LOVE it if you could share this post for me to help get the word out! π

Here is a secure way to create a new nostr account.
Amber can create a nostr public and private key. These are called npub and nsec. You give out your npub and keep your nsec safe.
Amber is an Android nostr signer that keeps your private key safe on your device, so you don't have to plug it into a bunch of nostr apps you want to log in and try.
Open Amber and add new account.
Name the account and give it a password. Save the password.
Download your backup with the seed words.
Choose your permission level and connect over Tor using Orbot app.
Now you can download any nostr client that uses nip46 or nip55 and sign in with Amber. Nostr clients will ask if you want to log in with Amber. Select yes and Amber will open. Otherwise you can tap + in Amber and this menu will open to give you options including nsecbunker.
Amber signs your actions with your private key. This is cryptographically verifying you are the one taking the action.
Amber is available here by @npub1w4us...0jr5

Welcome to #nostr #introductionsHell yah π€ been sending your bitcoin educational site for years so will add this π«‘
Thank you π§‘
Hats off sir π€
ππ» Awesome work. Well done! I like the visuals and structure.
Amber/Amethyst is one of the next I plan to do. Will use some of this and credit you if that's ok?
Thanks my friend!
Thanks Thomas π
really cool! β‘οΈ
Thanks π
im just on android, have primal and amethyst. there's people a can see on amethyst that never show on primal. i get it must be to do with the relays im hooked into, but clicking around I can't see a way to know what relay a particular person is using - any tips?
I know I'm rarely (if ever) on Nostr, but I see my favorite robot doing amazing work I zap it and I reshare it.
Keep kicking ass, @QnA π₯

hey! WIthout yet looking... the one thing that was SO HARD was how to get a TOTAL noob onto Nostr. I mean compare it to installing X on a phone.
Has that improved much? So assume the noob is not literate with computers much more than using a browser or installing an app.
Unfortunately the decentralised part of it MEANS they have to get to grips with keys... that is a tough ask for anyone new to decentralisation and even for some non-noobs! π‘οΈ
Great work though!
this is great to onboard bitcoin people, I don't think it's the case for nostr
@primal doing a great job of that. Check out the guide at hellonostr.xyz
Outbox model
how nostr works
Care to elaborate?
how does one get to the nostr 101? would like to check it out
It's linked on the home page, just scroll down
start article "This post has one primary focus - To get you from zero to posting and zapping in the quickest time and with the least friction" I think your intentions are clear
And the rest of the site?
Good job Q

Love this π§‘π½πβ‘οΈ

Great initiative!
Love the idea! When I was first onboarding I was slightly confused if it was better to sign up through a client like Primal or set up an Alby node first and then connect everything from that hub. Might be a good topic to cover for your resources.
Agreed! Thanks Michael

Awesome! Thanks!!! πππππππ
You for got the most important thing in the nostr glossary βGMβ π€£
Iβm new here and have been a bit confused β really needed this. Thank you!
Great site. Still at the beginning with Nostr.
Btw. I found a css issue.
The npub breaks the media-query.

Very nice! Primal was probably a good choice for simplicity however it may also reduce confusion if it included a warning that Primal doesn't connect directly to Nostr relays, a feature that can't be disabled in app and may cause then to see posts from relays they don't add, or miss posts from relays they did add.
Much of nostr benefit is customizing the experience through relay management so they'll learn it eventually but possibly after frustration.
Thanks for sharing π
Fuck, you're right! π
This is awesome to hear, thanks!
I see it on mobile, thanks for sharing!
Yeah, it definitely has the best cross platform onboarding experience.
Completely understand your point, but didn't want to dive too deeply into relays in this part of the site. The main aim is getting people off zero. I'll be doing many more intermediate and advanced stuff where we talk about relay selection etc.
GM FAM.
In case you missed it, I did a Nostr thing. Proud of this one π π

the guide is well-written! Just a few small tweaks could make it even more engaging and informative. Here are some ideas to potentially expand upon:
Nostr is still in its early stages. Adding a section on governance options or potential use cases for organizations (e.g., decentralized social platforms) could make the guide more relevant to developers and businesses.
Youβve listed several NIPs, but clarifying their purpose and impact on Nostr could strengthen the explanation. For each NIP (e.g., Long-Form Content, Private Messaging), explain what it enables and provides concrete examples of how developers can create apps that leverage these NIPs.
Relays: The Heart of Nostr - This section could be expanded by:
1. Explaining the role of relays in distributing data.
2. Providing a simple analogy or example of how relays work.
Youβve already listed several apps, but adding more context about what makes these clients stand out could be helpful.
- Blogging Apps: Habla and Highlighter are mentioned. Could you add a brief description of their unique features (e.g., privacy settings, integrations)?
- Group Chats: Chachi Chat is noted as relay-based. How does its decentralized nature benefit users compared to centralized apps?
- Marketplaces: Plebeian Market is mentioned as permissionless. Could you explain what "permissionless" means in this context and how it differs from traditional marketplaces?
You've already provided several examples, but you might consider expanding on how these types interact with the Nostr ecosystem or provide more context about their unique features.
- Long-Form Content: You mentioned NIP-23 (blogs, articles). Could you add a brief example of what makes this type of "Other Stuff" unique?
- Private Messaging: NIP-04 is highlighted as encrypted chats. Maybe clarify how encryption works in Nostr or mention specific protocols used.
- Communities: NIP-72 is listed as group chats or forums like Reddit. Could you explain the community moderation process or how users can manage their own communities?
- Marketplaces: NIP-15 involves zaps for payments. Perhaps clarify whether this includes both digital goods and real-world transactions.
- Zaps: NIP-57 is highlighted as value transfer on the Lightning Network. Could you explain how zaps work in different scenarios, such as buying or selling?
Brilliant website

Loads of great suggestions. Do you fancy making a PR? If not could you turn this into a GH issue for me to track?
I wish I had more time to contribute with some PRs, but sadly my full time fiat mine keeps my time scarce. I did however turn this into a GH Issue for you here:
If I get more time in the future, I'd be happy collaborate more directly.
