No this is seriously the case. Preparing the DAC8 implementation this was confirmed by a high officer at the Dutch tax authorities.
Should be public information. Otherwise someone should file a WOB for it to just make it confirmed this is the case.
It’s the same with bank accounts. In the Netherlands we’ve got around 20.000 compliance folks checking on your transactions with banks. PEPs (politically exposed persons) and high net worth individuals have a separate status and these bank accounts are in a different database and have different accessibility for bank employees.
Rules for thee and not for me is literally applied in the Netherlands at the tax authority and bank level.
Even more interesting, you can request a secrecy for your personal data with the municipality. That’s now accessible for every citizen, but got that advised in one of the meetings, also interesting for Dutch citizens to request this with their local municipality:
