My wife is convinced the earth is flat after crazy research trying to prove it is a globe. She has an IQ well past the genius line, phd in human genetics, masters in statistics, and is actively the 5th column within a large hospital system trying to protect your genome from being farmed out to big Pharma. When she goes deep on something she can't stop. Also why she makes all the food for our kids from scratch.
What convinced me was this....she said you did the research on Bitcoin and I trusted you to put in an uncomfortable percentage of our networth in it. She then asked that I trust her research and open my mind to the possibility. I trust her implicitly with my life so I'm now a flat earther π΄ββ οΈπ΄ββ οΈπ΄ββ οΈπππ

interesting
I haven't looked too deeply into it, but I'm at the stage of my general education that I no longer dismiss out of hand things that would have sounded crazy to me a few years ago
(but my favorite part of this post is how you talk about your wife π€©)
The air relative to the volcano/earth is moving at the same speed as the smoke coming out so they are moving together, the smoke coming out of the train is colliding with air not moving at the same speed as the train so its smoke is likewise colliding with that relatively motionless air.
The Coriolis effect
Iβve looked into it but I just have a hard time believing every single person involved in space exploration, astrophysicists, moon landing, astronauts, SpaceX, NASAβs astronaut acadeny program, all are βin on itβ in order to deceive the public and NOT A SINGLE person has ever leaked any information regarding the earth being flat.
Do flat Earthers limit the theory to Earth or are other things flat too?
Is everything else a flat circle?
Moon
Sun
Planets
the shape is geodesic
The difference is scale and frame of reference. And how do people sail around the world? And what is the edge like? How thick is the disk? Does the wold have " a down under" fo real? The bottom or top side of the world is yet to be explored ?
Maybe we are just drawn to flat circles, like Bitcoin. Even though it was a digital creation, a flat circle was chosen
I'm still trying to wrap my head around it all.
The one logical thing that perplexed me is why is space dark if all the light we receive on earth comes from the sun? Shouldn't it be bright in space based on that idea
Donut earth or bust. Everyone is being psyopped.
It's all so tiresome. This is why there is joy in meeting people in person....then you know they are real or that the simulation allows them to have a physical presence ππ΄ββ οΈ
I've travelled around the world in both directions, but only along the horizontal plane. I cannot prove that the poles don't actually circle inward π€π€
That aside all of human history stands against the flat earth crowd, and I discount all human knowledge post 1913 in favor of the ancients. Whether right or wrong, I'll find my answers outside the century of psyops, not within it.
4D Klein Bottle earth/universe. Of course it can appear to look the other ways, because we're stuck looking into what appears as 3d space with some 2d projection onto our eyes!
Masterful deduction my fren

Light traveling is invisible. You need something to absorb the light to be visible. Space is empty and nothing absorbs the light.
If you have a laser you can shine it and you wonβt see the beam unless there is dust or smoke. Space needs the same thing. Dust in space is really cool. Before JBP broke down:

You're onto something Ben.. π―π
What convinced her?
It was a slow journey over the last 18 months. Many little things. She is very thoughtful and continues to try and disprove her thoughts now.
You can see the shadow that the earth casts over the moon and you can see it's round.
You can measure the circumstances of the earth by measuring how long sunset takes from different heights above the ground.
Believing that the earth is flat because someone on a podcast said so, is retarded.
I don't believe you even have a wife.
I'll say a prayer for you that you find someone to share your life with and bring you the same amount of my badass wife has brought me.
Godspeed
The train is moving relative to the atmosphere held down by gravity where the volcano is not. Simple. Same reason you feel a lot of wind on your face if you stick your head out the window of said train. Get people that believe this shit to explain satellites, explain what you are seeing in lunar eclipse and what that curved shadow is during one that crawls across the moon. Get them to explain the classic of what part of a tall ship you see first coming in to port from the ocean and which part you see last using flat earth.
Or you could just believe satellites are made up, radio waves bouncing around globe are made up, what you see from high enough up in a plane is made up, pictures in space are made up. This HUGE conspiracy to trick people.
flat earthers don't believe in gravity tho
your wife is wrong. probably won't be the last time.
would you trust a flat earther with your money?
where's her proof of work? lots of little things????? watch Segan explain how the curvature of earth was deduced by geometers in ancient Greece.
also, take her phone away
I have news for you, fam. Neither you, nor your wife are anywhere near a genius level if that's what wave you're on. ππ
The most basic principles of fundamental physics explain this phenomenon in perfectly simple language & you can't arrive at a different result no matter what you try; the laws are empirically true. π€·ββοΈ
If your wife has borrowed her conviction from you about #Bitcoin / #BTC then she doesn't understand logic, math or physics. πββοΈ
No offense. π€
Fair point.
What if webs of trust are needed for geniuses too?
In my 20s my hubris/intelligence allowed me to succeed until I hit a wall of success I didn't have the humility for. Then I crashed out.
In my 30s my economic success in fiat land hit levels I thought I'd never see after hitting the wall in my 20s. Most of this leveling up was due to new relationships I formed and becoming a Dad (also the decade I went down the Bitcoin rabbit hole) while continuing to read and learn as much as my curiosity allowed.
In my 40s I've tried to lean into the idea of maximizing what I'm great at and finding others who are great at my weaknesses to lean on.
It's hard to be humble enough to know my intelligence allows me to excel in certain realms, and that I'm mostly retarded in many other areas compared to the geniuses that excel in that realm. The Bitcoin and Nostr community has opened my eyes to so many new ideas and ways to looking at things.
