This is a freedom that is only available if you're not employed by someone.
But man, what an awesome freedom this is. Generally more people will hate you, but more people will love you. And you start thinking a lot more clearly.
It's a good trade, IMO.

It’s absolutely clarifying in an extreme way.
I'm not self-employed, but I still tell people whatever you he hell I think. That's probably why I never got promoted.
Employment does not remove the urge to say it, it only puts a visible price on it. What keeps the freedom alive is not temperament but the income: with a single client the same instinct still gets charged, just later and worse - the bill arrives as a slow decline in work instead of a meeting. Two independent sources of income are what make the trade hold, because then no single relationship can set the price.
