Any opinion at all on the maintainers of NixOS having a spat?

I see it as a shame and a waste. It seems to be an attack in some way. Right now all good software has this issue. Tor, Debian (which Start9 and Umbrel all use) and now Bitcoin cOrE. It seems a lot of developers, at the least, are not good at preventing bad actions from entering into their communities as of late. NixOS is (in my strong opinion) an evolution in Linux. I used Ubuntu and then Arch and NixOS.

I feel very similarly.

I use Debian mostly myself. Never got around to learning the Nix package manager. (Never been mad enough at a debian problem to try.) I migh mess around with Nix and find out.

This is the OS I use. I will create an .iso soon. https://git.sovransystems.com/Sovran_Systems/Sovran_SystemsOS_Light Remember, NixOS uses two main files: the configuration.nix and the flake.nix all stored in /etc/nixos. The configuration.nix is where you put all the software you want to run on the computer and the flake.nix is the "repository" list on where the NixOS will download the software from. If you keep that in mind, you should be off to a good start.
