Do people really use phones to do all sorts of things? I think I use my phone just to listen to podcasts and send chat messages, other activities are secondary. I guess sometimes I read things there too, but every time I am presented with a URL that could potentially open a webpage full of JavaScript I feel bad and often do not click.

It's a myth .. All my banking stuff I still do on my Laptop All my writing and coding ( whatever little) I do on Deaktop All the YouTube and consumption media is best on my Desktop . . . . Cell phones are good for taking calls .. which I never take anyways :-)
I think the big mistake for many people is relying on their phone for _everything_. Phones give great independence but the paradox is that people become too dependent on their phone. That is not lost on the mobile OS vendors and I think many governments are perfectly happy with this because it gives them a singular lever to control an individual.
Young people in Brazil no longer possess basic computer skills. They struggle with tasks such as copying and pasting or finding a file in a folder because they no longer use computers, only phones.
Most people don't have a PC, so they are trapped in this little screen designed for consumption.
Friend of mine managed dev of phones for a couple of companies. His take kinda made sense: The most depressing job as I have to make sure huge number of features and functions so need to learn everything that I know will barely be used. They’re fantastic for the 5% max of our users who we know through surveys actually use everything. For the rest, it’s a phone with a camera and they don’t even know the rest exists.
Yes. A friend of mine, who has been a teacher for 20 years, told me how over the years he has seen students becoming less and less used to PCs. The example he gives is that they don't know the potential, even of things that might interest them, for example they don't know how to search for and download an MP3. With COVID, schools have accelerated the 'digital conversion' and now the children (< 14 years old) are better off, but they are still trapped in the cloud world, Google above all.
I think me and most of people do. I don't go out with money, credit cards, documents, paper, pencil, anything else anymore. Only my phone
All sorts of things are not available yet on phones although there are many things and people use their phones for what they need to do. So one way of advancing the way of using phones is to think about what the people need in their daily lives and make it phone friendly. You don’t like JavaScript, I think the use of many other libraries of programming languages have discredited it although it is a component of many of them (many programming languages can trend and fade away although JavaScript is still here and that gives it a certain importance).
Caro amigo Fiat o Nostr esta muito instavel, trava demais e demora para atualizar as postagens. Dessa forma jamais conseguiremos atrair publico e derrotar as redes sociais centralizadas!

If I wasn't a software dev I would maybe touch my laptop once a week.
