I recently had a conversation about AI with a middle-aged farmer from rural Alberta. He’s a smart guy who manages a large farm, and he mentioned that he expects AI to make his job about 20% more efficient over the next 5–10 years. Personally, I’ve been using tools like GROK and ChatGPT regularly, and I listen to a few tech-focused podcasts. I’d say I’m ahead of the average person when it comes to adopting AI. That’s why I think his 20% estimate is way off. In my view, we’re more likely to see that level of efficiency improvement per year, not spread over a decade. Curious to hear others’ thoughts — is 20% over 10 years realistic, or are we underestimating the pace of AI's impact?

I'm more inclined to think like you. I think it's going to be exponential growth and impact. My day job is in tech and I use AI tools to help me code. And sometimes I think AI is really stupid lol. But if I think back to half a year ago, would I have believed I'd be using AI this much with my coding every day... definitely not. I really don't think we understand what's coming and how it is going to impact our lives. Good or bad.

It’s fascinating how many people seem to fear AI in general. From my perspective, technological advancement has been accelerating—especially over the last 150 years—and there's no real indication that this exponential trend is slowing down. Those who believe we can or should put the brakes on are often driven by fear of the unknown, which is understandable. But even if some AI outcomes seem threatening (e.g., robots taking over), I don’t see that as likely. And more importantly—even if it were, what could any one person realistically do to stop it? Instead of resisting the inevitable, I believe we should embrace these advancements and work toward guiding them responsibly. Done right, this progress can lead to a more abundant, efficient, and better future—not one built on fear, but on informed action.

I don't think we can stop it. But I don't trust humanity to know how to handle this kind of accelerated change well. In a Fiat world where inflation is required, mixed with AI which is deflationary in nature - a lot of good, hard working people are going to be hurt by this. I think it's inevitable and I don't think we can stop it. If we can get off this inflationary hamster wheel that the powers that be have orchestrated, AI could bring a lot of hope to our future. But I don't believe this is going to be a good ride for a lot of people. I'm grateful I've found Bitcoin so hopefully I won't be trapped in a bad situation. But I feel for the many good people who will be.

Aside from saving in bitcoin, I don't really know of good way to protect oneself for what is coming. I have a friend who is considering a position move at her company because she thinks it will be more resilient to AI. But what do any of us really know how this is going to play out, and what positions are safe. I work as a software developer. I have to use AI tools in my day to day work now. I know a lot of people are loving vibe coding... But what I love about coding is what is being taken away. I hope that I'm safe at my current company for a few more years, save everything I can in Bitcoin and maybe see what I do next. Who knows what the future holds. It's more uncertain than it's ever been.
