100%, algorithms are CRUCIAL, they aren't the enemy. The idea of not having algos in Nostr because "they are bad" is like trying to build a "better web" back in the 90s without search engines because you know Yahoo was censoring stuff. Its about having CONTROL over the algorithm, not belligerently thinking people can drink the 10,000 firehoses worth of global social media without any sort of filter or weighting mechanism. We need more bots so people see the value of algorithms. Or just compare Global to your Follows feed and realize why filtering matters.
#YESTR User's management and responsibility is the key IMO.. we need the right tools, then we need to learn them so we could use them in a positive and beneficial way for us. Being able to self configure feed's lists and algorithms directly in clients will be gamechanger.
“Algorithm” is just the business logic used to power a feed. Nostrs chronological order is an “algorithm”. The most basic and boring one, but an “algorithm” nonetheless. Saying they’re bad is a misunderstanding of how software works. What’s bad is how the business logic is implemented, not the business logic itself.

you can’t have control over a decentralized algo. you can’t have control over a centralized algo, if it isn’t your own. in a few years or more, people will understand why #peercuration is the solution. until then people won’t even grok it.

“Write or choose your own algorithm(s)” > “no algorithm whatsoever”…
Peer curation is just a different type of algorithm. I’m just talking about why we need a system around delivering, filtering, and organizing content that improves the user experience. This doesn’t prescribe the method by which that is accomplished at all.

i was in agreement with your opinion (and should have expressed it more clearly. my bad!). i think the algo should be distributed/decentralized; ie spread out… and i think different users should get different content, because their subjective perceived value is different… ie the algo itself (not only the output) should be different for different people. this is exactly what #peercuration does, because its more similar to a curation protocol , then a filtering algo. hence its a “side-chain to the nostr chain” or a subnet in parallel to the mainnet.
