Hi #nostriches, is anyone running #calyxos on a Pixel 6a? After learning that the UK government is putting lot of pressure on Apple, I'm sure Google is in a similar situation. I might be ready for a free OS on my phone. I'd love to learn from you how smooth the transition is and what sacrifice to expect. #asknostr

Thank you for the feedback. I'm pretty open to the OS choice, as long as it's got good privacy. I heard that push services that rely on Google's interesting are tricky to use with graphene.

I think most use graphene. Though I wouldn’t expect any magic from them either, it’s open source, which means the government doesn’t need graphene to give them a backdoor it’s already wide open. Same for Google, it’s open source, no backdoor needed. As far as the transition, just remember why you installed it and you won’t miss most of the pixel propriety features or that irritating warning every time you boot up. Graphene is vanilla.

I talk shit about nostr:npub1235tem4hfn34edqh8hxfja9amty73998f0eagnuu4zm423s9e8ksdg0ht5 all the time for banning me from their chats and harassing me on nostr without actually using nostr But CalyxOS banned me from their chats even faster, and doesn't even half-use nostr via a mastodon bridge to harass me here, so they can't be much better

I'm not especially paranoid. But I think the governments rather request information from a company than to sneak in backdoors in a peer-reviewed open source project.

So I assume you'll pick lineage again over both other options, right? Would you mind to let me know why you settled on lineage?

To reiterate, because you seem to be confused. The UK is forcing Apple to add a backdoor door and not allow their users to encrypt their data because Apple is closed source. Android is wide open (it’s literally in the name AOSP) so the UK doesn’t need a back door, just someone who understands git.

A little git knowledge is all you need to create your own rom let alone get into one. XDA is nothing but copy/paste and change the header. All the real developers left years ago. As much as I hate Alex, I have to give to him and his team at DU, they basically kept the custom rom scene going for years while everyone else piggybacked off of their success. Randall was an ass but he could code like a moto, so we let it slide. 😝 There were a few others that went their own way, Broken being one of them, but most relied on DU to merge the hard stuff and solve any commit conflicts. This is actually where GZOSP could come back into play since it was also a base for many ROM’s, but the person responsible for making GZR what it was, passed away a few years ago from cancer. I’m just trying to save you the trouble of loading an OS that is actually less secure than iOS, simply because it’s a knee jerk reaction to what the UK is doing.

I'm not targeting you with false claims, and I don't think saying true shit about a software project, by the software project's name, is harassing anyone. I did recently get evidence she's fine, and I appreciate you mentioning her. Thank you. Good day, and good luck in your valuable security research.

The same laws apply. Google wouldn’t be able to talk about it. I would assume they’re also or have already been compliant. This isn’t an issue with Apple. This is an E2EE cloud provider issue. And Google is one of the biggest. Assume they’ve already been giving the keys to the data.
