Browsing global, too many ppl don't have lightning addresses set up. We need to do a better job onboarding the newbs. They're leaving sats on the table 🥲 How can we do better? #asknostr image

image I think the closing the gap between npubs w/o lightning and npubs with lightning is one of the biggest things we can do to increase retention. Zaps are addicting and good.

as far as I know nostr pubkeys are like bitcoin address no? pay2nostr pubk? i am noob btw. don't even know what that means
and add after they are done setting e.g. wos/zeus up, they should share this with nostr with an automated note they can publish, like so "Just done setting up my lightning adres! #zapme #plebchain #introduction" [Post note] and then we follow the tag #zapme and hopefully online nostriches test-zap the newbs? or maybe a bot can do it even?

In my opinion the focus should be on getting new users set up with and backing up their 12 words. Once you have that foundation, nostr private keys, non-custodial lightning seed words, etc, all of that can be derived from/based on those 12 words, using standard passphrases or BIP85's, etc. Otherwise you are having to stitch all these things together yourself, and is not natural.
Current is the only client that has a built in, zero effort, (mind you custodial) wallet. We need more of this. not everyone is going to be concerned with self-custody if it's their first experience with bitcoin.
Put on the follow list a bot or someone that says onboarding help Maybe even make it like a must… not tricky to opt out off but a logical choice would be to follow and confirm maybe. I am also a newb that’ll just jump in to #nostr #newbs
I agree with Vitor note1rrdet363m0sm3d64h9fs2lw6f9vkcddg665ug4eke6htqwk9x9asuc66vx If I encounter someone with a broken or missing lightning button, I DM them and tell them I’m trying to zap them.
We should all zap the e-girls so they can welcome the new users & explain stuff. Oldest trick in the book. The real question is now where did all the e-girls go?
These god-damn men zapping insight-producing wetware instead of boner-inducing hardware. What has society devolved into?

True, not many people know that. Still, we need to find a simple way that even newbies to Bitcoin immediately think of Lightning. How can we make the good comparison between Android and Linux as easy as Bitcoin with Lightning? Nobody needs to know that Android is built on top of Linux. Nevertheless, we must succeed in finding a way for newcomers to be able to use Lightning easily/immediately. Your question is a good question and not easy to answer.
After a few days on the client, the user should be prompted to create a lightning wallet. A wallet like alby should be integrated on the client so the user doesn’t have to leave to create it. This would make it as seamless as possible.
What are some good wallet options that are integrated to clients? As a "newb" to nostr on iOS I found the Damus + Alby + Bluewallet combo to work ok, but it's a bit of work to setup. Not completely sure what other services and wallets to try out!

Using plebstr client and pasting a Muun address into the Lightning field does nothing for me when I look at my profile afterwards. I zap for halp!

#Nostr clients should automatically include a LN by default. No need to setup anything.

This will be fixed when 1) people get more acquainted with lightning in general and 2) Bolt-12 gets fully released to be used by self-custodial wallets instead of LNURL.

clients like Primal don't have a sign-up or log-in page or even a documentation link. newbs will see posts and have no idea how to start using the website.
I think this is more of an issue with lightning than Nostr. It’s be amazing if they was a Nostr client with a built in node, but until then the on-boarding process for lighting is probably too steep or people will use custodian lightning wallets.
I see your problem by opening your profile on Amethyst.. you set a LN Invoice as your LN Address, a LN Address should look like an email, like: thisisanexample@walletofsatoshi.com. As of right now you can only get one of these by either hosting your own LN node + LN Address webserver, or using a custodial LN wallet like Wallet of Satoshi, where they give you one. This is one of the main problems with zaps today cause the easy way is to use a custodial wallet like WoS. You can find a list of LN Address providers here: Usually people on Nostr use Wallet of Satoshi, Alby, ZBD LN Addresses. So all you need is to install one of those wallets, copy the LNAddress, the one that looks like an email, and paste it where you pasted the LN Invoice before. Cheers! 🤙
