I used that for years. Very safe. If you want push there is the Google option and you are doomed. No push..very slow messaging. But it works

I remember there was a point where I heard people talking about the app, but I didn't know anyone actually using it. Maybe stuff like this is why.

I'll give it a download. I've been hearing about that application more and more on Nostr.
It's not perfect, but, it's very functional and exceptionally private and secure.
