The exploitive cunt I’m currently keeping the wolves at bay serving doesn’t even do fake ass CPI-based or cost of living increases to salaries any more. For me, 3.5% total in 6 years, in the face of a 40% cost-of-living increase including the dollar’s loss of purchasing power. And despite continually smashing quarterly sales records, his longest running trick has been making massive capital purchases at profit sharing bonus time, to eliminate eligibility for bonuses. All while claiming “I’m not getting rich off everyone’s back here“, while his kids drive hundred thousand dollar vehicles and are purchasing their first rental properties. It’s a fucking humiliation ritual for 3%, and I am done grovelling. I’m in a captive little northern labour market with few employers in the area, and it has been made very clear in requested comp review meetings that without walking into the meeting with a credible threat of moving to another company, if you don’t like it you can sell that house you’ll never own outright, and move. Employment is a shitcoin. The worst thing is, the job security starts to wane as well, when you realize that the greatest threat to your next paycheque is liable to happen when you accidentally stop self censoring and actually speak your mind about the overt theft of your time that is happening. ”You should just be happy you have a job.” Pfft. 🖕🏼

Thankfully I've never had an office job or corporate career, I just never wanted that kind of life at all. Been in thousands of offices though when I was a bike messenger!

I’m not even Gen X and I couldn’t agree more. Work is not a place to make friends. It’s to get shit done. No one should have to pretend they are there to be your friend, and people’s time is the most valuable and sacred thing there is - so don’t fucking waste it. I hope the whole idea of a workweek dies. It’s stupid. No one works all day, every day. If they do, it’s because they don’t know wtf they are doing or just playing the game. Thing is, no one has to play the game. Focus on the outcomes and let people do what they are good at.
