Yesterday, I went to the public library for the first time since the pandemic.
I’m glad I brought my noise-cancelling headphones…

Loud libraries? What's this world come to?
Yeah, it was nuts. I could not believe it. It was not only the kids, it was the adults, too. Libraries have evolved to social drop-in centres. I don’t think anybody can read anymore.
It is the only way for them to stay relevant they are only going to move further in that direction becoming more like community centers.
Yeah, I agree. Libraries are the unsung digital heroes for local residents. I read all my papers in digital form, courtesy of the library. So too, with audio books. My comment was an observation, not a criticism - it was cool to see all the local people hanging out. The screaming kids I would not tolerate in a shopping mall, much less a library.
What was cool is that the tables are fitted with outlets and the internet was such that I could easily do some development, push a code commit and deploy a new container.
Yup. Also an amazing resource if you are doing any historical research. I was a regular patron in the reference section and archives when I was researching my book.
