High level (for me) is this - this is the free market deciding (versus being told) what is right and that consensus is the thing that keeps Bitcoin decentralized and secure. Our own actions trying to determine what is right for us - And seeing through the narrative of others (with potentially different objectives and incentives seeing what is right for them). The biggest risk I personally see in Core V 30 is the increased potential for zero day attacks that wouldn’t be seen by the network and exploited by various malicious actors through programs interacting with it. The ability to maintain core with very few programmers IS due to its small attack surface. By increasing the attack surface - to do more (Citrea etc) you introduce an increase in complexity that requires more security (and engineers) Like the cat and mouse of every other blockchain. Others will have different opinions on this …but you asked for mine.

I bunch of unreviewed code managed by someone with poor security practices is a larger attack surface to me. I don’t see how an easily bypassable relay policy default changes the attack surface at all. https://blog.lopp.net/knot-a-serious-project/

The whole point of #Bitcoin was that its rules are immutable. To take humans out of it. Now a few corrupt developers and influencers are taking down Bitcoin. Crazy. Satoshi-San should have frozen the code. The weakest link of Bitcoin has always been the maintainers. Now they’ve been turned into an attack vector. Unless we freeze the code they will always be the weakest link.

Understand your concern and with one maintainer, it is a risk. Markets move (as do our actions within them) though and as the market votes, maintainers will follow to where their actions are aligned with a future that they see. The chaos (on both sides) is a natural and positive consequence of the first truly global free market…… a misunderstanding of holding one variable constant - while changing others when it is in fact many variables changing.
