Unreal man. I was 17 and had that summer taken a train from Frankfurt to Warsaw transiting East Germany. I spoke with many East Germans : they had zero hope of living in a free market economy, no hope at all. 3 months later the wall fell and then Romania, etc… Shit happens “fast”

Too bad that Romania couldn't evolve șo fast like Est Germany, we were so indoctrinated with the comunist thinking... Even now at we have comunist people running the country... Too much corruption..., this year even Bulgaria has moved to Euro (as money), and we were rejected again. All prices are in EURO, and we are paid in RON. 🤬😡🤬😡

Fellow East-block pleb here. I'd say that live-tv execution of the dictator was a great start. My country didn't have even that. What was missing though was a great reckoning. Every commie from top to bottom should have been tared and feathered. Same for police, courts, the fucking border guards etc. Everyone involved in the secret police should have been hung on a lam post and left there for a couple weeks. What we (I mean the country I was born in) got was just a continuation of socialism. Politicians, police, courts, etc stayed the same. And some of them got even richer during the "privatization". The revolution in my country was, like all revolutions, just a sham sold to the sheep. 36 years later we happily accept Brussels's version of communism. We never learned the lesson. Never knew what freedom actually means. Then again, I suspect most people don't want freedom. I don't think they are not willing to pay the price. Hope I will be when the time comes...
