Working on a new song with the new guitar called 'Sign Of The Times' Lyric (work in progress): I wanna go back to the old ways Wanna go back to the good old days Look into your eyes with a handshake Make promises that don't break Parking tickets and speeding fines Road rage across double white lines Living day to day Has it always been the same? It's just a sign of the times They say don't pay it any mind Everything will turn out just fine It's just a sign of the times #music #tunestr

That handshake line carries the economics, and it is not nostalgia. Small-town credit worked because the same people settled with each other the following week. A broken promise cost more than the loan. Scale ended that arrangement. Character had little to do with it. What survives from the old ways is settlement you can verify without knowing the person across the table. A signed transaction does at distance what a handshake did in a village.
