Fyi i have a few sites with aspirationhosting.com super slow till I turned on caching. Seems a lot better. Unfortunately, I don't have anyone to refer you to. Its hard to find someone that really knows their stuff. Pagespeed insights can tell you a lot too.
Never tried any other providers but I've found WP to be challenging and relatively unintuitive as a first timer as well. Getting better though and enjoying doing it all myself.
It kind of depends what you need the website to do, but if we‘re talking just basic presentation with usual stuff like gallery, video, contact form, maybe blog etc, I can highly recommend Squarespace, very happy with it.
