@Jameson Lopp Can you help me to understand something regarding illegal content added to OP_Return? If I’m running a node and I have the 80b limit, an entity trying to get something larger into a block has to go to a miner because my node will filter it out, right? Does that mean the miner would have to make a decision on whether or not to add the content? Making them a sort of vetting body? I can’t image any miner would willingly add illegal content regardless the financial benefit.

Yep - but now that Core v30 has exceeded 10% of the network those nodes will usually be able to route around non-v30 nodes, so instead of sending it directly to miners they can route it anonymously through the Core v30 nodes. Now miners can claim they’re just “mining what the network sent them” and that this is the “default behavior” for the Bitcoin network instead of needing to care about the content they allow.
