Bitcoin is not ready to serve everyones needs with no kyc, and Bitcoiners who care about this are bullied away.
Please let's get Drivechains over with, or OP_CAT or something.
Or fuck it let's monetize Signet.

Monero?
The issue isn't privacy, it is scaling. Although with Drivechains you can have chains that are private. Monero does not solve scaling it adds one more token you have to worry whether it will be acceptable or not. That goes against adoption.
What maxis ignore is that Monero already dominates the payment market both white and black market. It won't change anytime soon.
like the anon said Monero "not scaling" already carries both white and black markets with ease, and the next upgrade FCMPs will open the door for offchain payments
Good for them.
There is a large discrepency between merchants that accept on-chain vs Lightning vs Liquid, etc are in practice very different even though they are all Bitcoin.
The last two are extremely small and don't share the adoption of on-chain Bitcoin. Monero has arguably more adoption than Lightning, and definitely more than Liquid.
There are merchants accepting Liquid? I have encountered it by mention of some Lightning Network node operators, but I haven't seen it being used for anything else
My point is that a sidechain would have to start merchant adoption all over again from scatch. Compared to the last two attempts seems like a very tough uphill battle to get over the already existing network effect of the already existing privacy coin (Monero).
Yea that's my point, I'm sure there are a couple, I see Lightning somewhat often, but none that I know of for Liquid.
On the same topic, Shopinbit just released there latest payment stats:

>" I would prefer a private coin that is two ways pegged to Bitcoin than Monero"
Putting aside the merchant adoption stuff, I think if it was basically indistinguishable from Monero, a lot of Monero users would also prefer this (because many are also Bitcoiners). Unfortunately it doesn't exist right now and there seems to be little consensus on the idea of something like drivechains.
Yea, I understand that, but that is just an additional thing working against adoption of L2s like Lightning. Liquid doesn't have that excuse. It works similarly to on-chain BTC, but still fails to see significant adoption (wouldn't call it as private as Monero either). Not saying it can't happen just seems very unlikely the more time passes.
Something will give sooner or later. The status quo is not sustainable and Lightning is increasingly disappointing everyone, so unless Bitcoiners will turn custodial shills, they will have to give something.
Offtopic, just realized are you Pubky dev? That's badass been waiting for it to go public and give it a spin 🏄♂️
Any rough ETA?
I am the maintainer of pkarr.org, and I designed and implemented most of pubky core (the protocol that the app is built on).
I no longer work at Synonym, so I don't have privileged insight on when they will allow users to try the beta.
If anyone can answer you it would be @Big Bad John
