to me, isnt about controlling the narrative narrative is emergent isnt an issue of working for free, community is unpaid labor cos labor of love is so much simpler on just censorship alone, the fact that this is insane that words have to be struck out to not get caught up in robots or mod censors which is constantly reifying danger and penalty where there should be none no one should be in fear of losing their livelihood for sharing words someone else wrote about being afraid of being sexually assaulted or raped image View quoted note →

there is a psychological cost and a social cost and a community cost to having to carry in your head a list of bad words that might get you demonetized or demoted or shadowbanned there is moral injury that comes with inventing euphemisms and vague roundabouts and nicknames for a word like: suicide to make sure your friends are even able to see what you spent time to say and share it is humiliating and demoralizing to be asked to do this to yourself and your own words all in hopes of evading censors having to live on a platform with an invisible hand on your throat that can choke you out and delete you at any time with no recourse
