Ghostr messages are NOT self destructing… ??? The relay operator (the machine storing the note) would have to delete the note for that to be the case in this scenario- if the relay operator does not honor the deletion the note does not expire
The notes are gift wrapped (“encrypted”) with ephemeral keys that destruct
Meaning the notes may persist
HOWEVER, if decryption keys were intercepted then the anonymity would be broken (this is not unlikely in a set up like the ones being used by nostr users) as keygen is severely compromised in most set ups
All of this nonsense is going to put people in danger

So ephemeral keys, so I can't access the note ever again, but relay operator can't read it either right? I mean the data is sitting there but they can't decrypt right
The ephemeral keys act as the mechanism for the “gift wrap”, the actual decryption depends on the npubs persistent keys
So the initial submission IS ephemeral creating anonymity
BUT the actual inner content which remains persistent is decrypted using persistent keys
May as well be Snapchat for how much you can rely on the note being gone.
Information is tough to ensure destruction of, it turns out.
All you can ever do is ensure your known copies have been destroyed. If there has been any avenue for it being copied, those copies are both out of your control, and indefinite in number.
Ask Barbra Streisand about the joys of information destruction once its been broadcast.
Honestly Snapchat actually is probably more secure in this instance 😭 I actually used Snapchat’s design to compare when I was looking into this
Also lol that you brought Barb into this 😂😂😂
You may have answered this already and I missed it.
What about the white noise app?
