I didn't know about this east-west division of culture in Ukraine. It's not only great to learn something new, but it's also refreshing to have a peek into your point of view.
Where I live, the citizens have defined their own region as a separate state that is not recognized by other government entities. It is because our "leaders" have ignored us, and even have started to attack our way of living (farming, water collection, raising animals, etc). Our conceived state is based on individual liberty, and some people here are living free, outside of legality. We don't have a long history of culture, (just a few decades), but other than that, I think I can relate to your position to a significant degree.
