To say that I'm excited about this would be an understatement. nostr:npub1l2vyh47mk2p0qlsku7hg0vn29faehy9hy34ygaclpn66ukqp3afqutajft is obviously a legend, and my hope is that we'll manage to attract people like him: high spirits, pragmatic, optimistic, competent, technical, and not naive. Many things need fixing, and we need an army of people to fix them. But we have to do it right. We must not repeat the mistakes of the past. We must not lose sight of the principles that make #bitcoin and #nostr great in the first place. The beauty of the orange coin and the purple nostrich is that they allow the building of things previously thought impossible. We see inklings of this already: streaming money, zaps, self-sovereign identity, lightning prisms, unconfiscatable wealth, timelocks, and more. I'm sure there's a multitude of things that we can't even think of yet. Things that will be obvious in hindsight. The goal of the Sovereign Engineering Cohort is to collaboratively dig for these things and figure out how to make them work for the long term. Explore the open seas that cryptosovereignty opens up. Without hubris. Without nostalgia. But with plenty of optimism and an eagerness to build towards a better future. We haven't figured out all the details yet, but we're getting there. We'll share more updates as we move along. "Build the tools. Ship the future." That's the over-arching theme, with self-sovereignty at the center. If all that sounds interesting to you, consider coming to Madeira to spend two months with a bunch of psychopaths (us). nostr:nevent1qqsqr2prnj5qtzk47ushcqw0ynm4ecysvvg00krctsl6qs3xnge6m0spz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhsygyrmxv6zjrzts7jhwqe4ucxfs8k5ykhm2y0dzevdy3p7wn5v9carypsgqqqqqqspg0pxf

Great idea. If I could be there I’d use the time to work on… - long range mesh networking (LTE direct) - Highly available redundant LN node infra (working on this anyway) - Re-decentralising email and e2e encrypted by default (NIP-mail?) - fiat/btc dex (helping @jayberg) - ASIC boilers using high temp chips - Slick PoS NFC UX tooling for btc Not sure what I’d do in the second month yet :)

Sounds reallly nice!! Decentralized is probably the result youre looking for when building mesh networks? Idk if there is an open source broadband technology, but it is interesting. I wondered if Bitcoin did need addressing in the first place, because everything is broadcast based. This would make it alot easier to create a decentralized physical network layer for Bitcoin (currently the highest priority I think) as it is only required to send bits of data instead of needing systems to route it.

Yes, the aim of the mesh is decentralisation of the physical layer. Phones, home routers, etc would form dynamic multilateral connections to one another. Good point about bitcoin and broadcast not needing routing. Indeed routing is probably the major challenge. I fear with Starlink we are moving in the opposite direction… one ISP for everyone.
