Mate, I've lived here for decades. So, for me it is a complete shit hole. That said, if you're a Yank coming for a visit, and you have money, you WILL love it. Don't expect to meet any Londoners though. I dropped off my better half at Heathrow the other day and on the train home I helped an American family with directions. The look of relief on their faces when they heard me speak. Which is ironic as, 1, I'm a cockney and 2, we speak a totally different language from you lot. Authoritarianism is the default path, though for the US I think civil war is a likely potential alternative. Unfortunately I don't see any happy alternative paths, leviathan can either be painfully deconstructed (not likely) or catastrophically imploded (more likely). This is why I see value in parallel decentralized systems already being in place, they can facilitate a shift away from the authoritarian system even as it the catastrophic part of the collapse is in progress.

I wouldn't put money on the EU doing anything, the chances are that France and Germany are going to be on fire at the same time. Given the strength of the migrant crisis and the near collapse of the European banking system, there is a fair chance that the EU will collapse in the process. Britain might actually have had a narrow escape! 😃
