Can you factor the number 21? How about 15? If I told you that quantum computers factored 15 in 2001, when would you guess they factored 21? The answer is that 25 years later they still can't do it. No quantum computer has factored the number 21. Why the hype? It isn't major breakthroughs. It is VCs marketing so they can flip worthless companies to idiots. Basic factoring is taught by 5th grade in American schools. An average 5th grader has a better chance of stealing Satoshi's coins with their brain than a quantum computer does. Selling Bitcoin for dollars over quantum fears? Tradfi lives on 4 digit pins, who is going to fall first?

I hope not but I saw a rash of posts about it so I did the sane thing and learned before responding so now I look like a weirdo coming in 2 weeks late.
I'd rather satoshis coins stolen and spent than the government get the ability to censor Bitcoin.
I've read some physicists say that 256qubit quantum computers are practically impossible due to the heat required to run the machine combined with the near-absolue zero cold required to keep the data accurate
I invented factoring before it was taught in school as a game to play in my head when bored. School is not a place for smart people. I was setting the low bar with public school C students.
Maybe it's because I'm not on twitter, but I don't have the motivation to follow this stuff that closely, and am unworried about it (the fork stuff, I mean).
who cares about background radiation? these things generate massive heat on their own
You sound like you have a loser stock you need to unload on a sucker. Please find your sucker somewhere other than my replies. My followers are all highly intelligent and discerning, proven by them choosing to follow me.
Classic mistake on social media. You gotta get in there and strike while the iron is hot, facts and understanding be damned. Dig in early, stick to your guns, and go ad hominem if all else fails.
I check in on it briefly every few days. It's definitely a trending topic in the usual circles. I only gathered that I can mostly do nothing and be fine, so not that bothered about it. Maybe as time approaches I'll tune in a bit more and see what's what.
A 4 digit pin is 14 bits. Bitcoin is 256 bits. Quantum computers have had 25 years from when they first factored 15, not 15 bits the integer 15 storable in 4 bits, and still can't factor the integer 21. I think the fall of tradfi will give us plenty of advanced warning.
I don't know that cracking 4-digit pins equals the fall of tradfi, but I take your point.
It's extremely painful, which is why the best strategy is to only HINT at points of view in a cynical way, and back off immediately as unserious when pressed for details
