Got Thoth (my Hermes-Agent) setting up Whitenoise today. Decided that even with terminal access off on IRC I think I'd be more comfortable with a more controlled environment rather than just hope an ircop doesn't just play games with nickserv and have access to my bot because they managed to get my name.
Happy to report that so far this seems easier than even installing and using Whitenoise myself (though that wasn't too hard either -- just had to avoid the pitfall of using my existing npub with it).

Yo wtf I feel like everyone was gatekeeping me from agentic AI telling me about all the money y'all are burning. I just asked hermes to connect to a private irc server with a self signed cert. It failed due to the signature not being recognized. solar pro4, a small free model, suggested that it could make a small change to give me an additional setting that I could configure to ignore self-signed cert errors. I agreed, it took 1-2 minutes, added the additional code, directed me to add the setting to the .env file, and when i restarted the gateway, it just. fucking. worked.
None of my prompts for code on the big models on the web ever just work. Be it Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, Copilot...it always takes multiple iterations, and usually a little knowing what I'm trying to do enough to recognize when it does something immensely stupid. Getting this from a free model, running Hermes on my desktop with parts from Obama's first term...
I'm gonna have some fun.
GM.
Just realized the laptop I have kicking around and barely use because of how much I love my dinosaur desktop has an 8 gig vram Iris Xe gpu.
Turns out it runs Qwen great! Guess I'll have to dive a bit deeper with all y'all running your fancy local AI models after all. I certainly didn't have the budget to buy any new machines (or tokens, for that matter). Gotta see what the fuss is with these harness things...
@DagzTagz Wife had a Rabbits sort of day today that I imagine you'd want to hear about.
She noticed someone sending her emails she was going back and forth with apparently had misspelled her own name, 4x in a row. This person's name was Keth, and the emails were signed "Keith."
Wife found that weird, but went ahead and emailed her back. Being, of course, sure she spelled it correctly. Upon clicking "send" though, she watched as it changed to Keith -- an apparent autocorrect AFTER clicking send. Something we chalked up to a REALLY ill advised Gemini "feature". She believed she found references to this, and proceeded to turn off all the Gemini stuff in gmail, and warned others at work, especially because of the issue of this "correcting" a non-white name to a white man's name.
This wasn't the only thing, she also had an email that had the subject "That one" which a coworker was also on. The coworker SAW this email in my wife's account, and found it strange that it had that subject, given that her copy of it said "EW" (initials of the person the email was regarding).
Well...she went back into it at home to explore the extent of it. Only to find that of course this autocorrecting is NOT happening, and indeed, when she opens up those older emails, the name shows as Keth, not Keith.
Different systems at home and work, so who knows, maybe Windows is being weird at her. Or maybe Google is gaslighting her. Or maybe Google really did fuck some shit up with Gemini, and upon realizing just how bad they fucked up, undid it (such that it showed as if it never happened). I didn't see the original files, but glad she at least had a corroboration from a coworker because I'd be wondering a bit about how much she might need a vacation right about now.
Anyway, if I disappear, blame the wardens.
Early humans used fire as early as 1.7 million years ago we only learned to make it 400,000 years ago.
I think technological pace is accelerating.
If you're not aware of @Contra yet what are you even doing with your life? Vibe coded music videos -- any incoming support from wavlake, or maybe fountain.fm?
My coworkers love hearing your music when I leave work whether they like it or not.

Coworker today asked me if I know about bitcoin.
'Sort of.'
'Do you know how Bitcoin mining works?'
'You're gonna wanna have a seat, this may take a little while.'
I did at least have the good sense to back up enough to the matter of what is bitcoin, what's a hash function, and what's a node, and gotta say I think i didn't do half bad for a 15 min crash course for someone who really hadn't the foggiest idea.
She was surprised when I laughed at her hypothetical of 'so if you walk my dog and I'm paying you 5 Bitcoins'...
I did ask for that rate locked in in writing.
Fancy cars are for renting. Not owning.
Though the 'car' I want is a pickup truck sized like they were in 1992, where it's not so much something you solve by renting, because I'd prefer more what it does for me.
Modern fuel efficiency would be nice though.

Getting a feel for #Grimoire. Is there a way to get a list of all of my $contacts recent notes, but not get replies? I'm using "req -k 1 -a $contacts --since 1d -f" but it's turning up replies too. Sometimes that's what I want, but often, I want just top level notes. Not seeing a way to specify just new notes in the manual page. Help?
It's true, this is what we want.
