@Egge do you have some plans with npub.cash? It’s super useful tool, but development seems to stopped?

Come to Prague in June and don’t miss Freedom Tech Summit (powered by @vexl 😎 , event formerly known as dev/hac/day). It’s a highly inspiring and interactive event for people interested in building within the #bitcoin, #cashu, #nostr, and other self-sovereign technology. I’m very grateful that this year I’ll also be giving a short workshop introducing the @Linky project. 🎉

Satoshi can reveal himself at any time simply by signing a message. Maybe his fingers itch somewhere and he occasionally feels like doing something like that. But quantum computers might make it possible for anyone to eventually create such a signature. In that sense, we will all truly become Satoshi. And finally relieve him of that burden. #weareallsatoshi

Not having control among others is blessing.

@Cashu is great for sharing bitcoin with people who don’t yet have any bitcoin or even a bitcoin wallet. However, when I compose a specific denomination, it ends up being a lot of tokens - in other words, a very long URL that I’m trying to use. The web URL is so long that messaging apps often don’t even recognize it as a link… and it can even look a bit like a scam. In printed form, I can’t use animated QR codes. I understand that using powers of two has many advantages, such as privacy or simpler splitting and merging. However, wouldn’t it make sense in some cases to create one-time exact denominations? Or to keep it composed of many tokens, but allow the mint to temporarily group them into a single alias? Since there is already trust in the given mint, it feels like this wouldn’t introduce additional risk. What do you think? @calle ? 🙏

We live in a funny time. The governor of the Czech National Bank is giving a lecture about bitcoin. 😀 He says that if they allocate 1% to bitcoin, they can get more value for the same level of risk. Feels good, but don’t forget that fiat is a scam.

At the last bitcoin meetup, I was intrigued by a 60-year-old bitcoiner who wasn’t interested in any lofty ideas about how bitcoin will improve the world. He simply has bad experiences with the state. Many years ago, he didn’t pay a property tax. It was a relatively small amount. However, over the years, they calculated very high interest on it. Eventually, he wasn’t able to pay it at all. Gradually, debt collectors stripped him of all his official assets. He renounced his citizenship - I’m not sure how he manages it, but he says he only has a passport and a driver’s license. He has to renew the driver’s license every five years, and for that purpose he temporarily arranges citizenship again. I might be using some terms incorrectly. In any case, this person lives in the Czech Republic but doesn’t have any bank account, so he pays for everything he can with bitcoin. 🔥 For that reason, he also dreams of better ways to acquire bitcoin around the world. Like peer-to-peer exchanges even in smaller amounts (for security reasons), based just on location, or cooperating with pensioners who have bank accounts, so they can buy bitcoin for him on exchanges and he gives them cash with an extra fee. And btw his mother is over 80 and collects sats through silly online clicking games. Seems like that the age is not a blocker for using bitcoin at all.

It feels weird to see one week old version of an application 😀

Eddie created a “Med-O-Mat” - a honey vending machine. Two things about it caught my attention: 1. The goal wasn’t to use lightning, but to find a working offline payment solution. And bitcoin, with the help of LNbits, turned out to be the best approach. 💪 2. He built it in a small village where most residents are of retirement age and generally not interested in bitcoin. But once he helped the first elderly lady set up an LN wallet and sent her first sats, it triggered a chain reaction. She started showing it to others. It seems that age is not a barrier to bitcoin adoption at all. According to Eddie, locals have even started using these payments in some other businesses. 🔥 https://www.med-o-mat.cz/
