Sidecar 1.8.0 is out right now on Firefox 🦊 and making its way through Chrome 🐢 review. New: Bauhaus, the latest of three classy light mode themes you’d actually want to use! Each of the six themes now have thier own display typefaces. Also added: An account-switcher right on the signing prompt, and distinct icons for every event kind in Recent activity. Fixed: Readability and legibility have been improved across all themes. Signing prompts can no longer hide behind a modal. Relay and wallet connections no longer hang until a reload. Exported keys clear themselves from the clipboard. Visit the Releases page from the Sidecar website or download the latest builds from GitHub, if you’re not the patient type.

There’s a classy neue theme coming to Sidecar: Bauhaus. Minimalist design with clean lines and clear, geometric shapes, paying homage to the century-old philosophy that form should follow function. This is Sidecar’s sixth theme, and the third that proves that light mode can actually look beautiful.

New in Sidecar 1.7.0 – Quick Start Zapping with Rizful ⚡️ Setting up Lightning in a browser extension used to mean: go install a wallet app, figure out how to create a connection string, copy it, paste it into your signer, hope you didn’t drop a character. You probably gave up last time you tried. Not classy at all. Sidecar 1.7.0 changes that. When you open the wallet tab without a wallet connected, there’s a new option: enter a one-time code from Rizful, and Sidecar receives a full NWC connection — ready to send, receive, and zap. A Lightning address comes back with it. No separate app, no manual paste, no NWC string to lose. Click one button to update the Lightning address in your bio for incoming zaps. Already have a wallet? Sidecar 1.3.0 is live in the Chrome Web Store. 🎩 This one is all about keeping your keys safe and knowing exactly what you're signing. 🧳 Full vault backup. Export every account and wallet connection into a single password-encrypted file, and restore it on another device. Your whole setup travels with you. 🔏 Smarter backups for single keys too: NIP-49 (ncryptsec) import and export, plus scannable QR codes that hide themselves on a countdown. 🏷 A clearer signing prompt. Events are labeled in plain language, and anything unusual gets a heads-up before you approve it. 🤼 Multi-account safety. On sites where you've signed in with more than one account, every post confirms who's posting. Where do your keys actually live when you use Sidecar? 🗝 Sidecar never sends your keys anywhere. They're stored on your device, encrypted, and the key that unlocks them is derived from the PIN you chose. We couldn't recover it if we wanted to, and that's the point: nothing to breach and no one between you and your identity. The elegant part of that design is also the honest part: it means the responsibility is genuinely yours. Two small habits make it effortless: Back up your keys. Export your nsec, an ncryptsec, or a full encrypted vault, and keep it somewhere outside your browser. A backed-up key can rebuild everything, anywhere. Keep your PIN somewhere private. A password manager or a piece of paper in a safe place. There is no "forgot my PIN" feature, by design. Self-custody isn't a feature we added. It's the whole idea. Stay classy, Nostr. 🍸

You no longer need to wait for Google to review the latest build to start using it. Every new official release will be available at the time it is submitted. Sidecar version 1.3.0 can be downloaded here. To install, enable developer mode in your Chrome extensions settings, choose “Load unpacked,” and open the contents of the uncompresses zip folder. There is no build step. Now that’s classy. 🍸
