Hello? 📞 Sidecar 1.16.2 is out, and we’ve got something worth phoning home about. @Blitz Wallet users can now connect their wallet, and this took some doing. Here’s why: Blitz is a non-custodial Spark wallet on your phone, and it wakes the phone with a push for every NWC request, balance checks included. Sidecar used to check your balance every 30 seconds. A server doesn’t notice that, but a person feels it in their pocket. Now Sidecar recognizes Blitz and stops polling. It reads the balance when you open the panel, after you pay, and when you tap refresh. Every other wallet now checks once a minute, and only while the balance is on screen. Also, the video player now loads only the first time you play a stream, so the panel opens lighter whether you watch streams or not, and the account overview folds away while something is playing. And from 1.16.1: you can let a site sign one kind of event without asking again. You can pay from any of your accounts that has a wallet connected, and every payment shows its progress in one bar. Streams open from their address, the composer shows when you’re replying, and the Welcome directory has eight new apps and a new search box, because there’s so much more to discover.

Sidecar 1.16 is out, and it’s showtime! Grab some popcorn, because this version now plays live video. 🍿 Sidecar already sits alongside whatever you’re doing, so a stream that keeps playing while you move around fits it better than a separate browser tab. Open the broadcast icon, pick something Live, Upcoming or Past, and it plays above the panel. Chat with the host and audience, zap the stream, and save your favorite streams to watch live or on replay. The rest of the release is the kind of thing you notice by not having to think about it. Mute a person, a note, or a whole thread from notifications. Follow, unfollow, or mute straight from search results and the profile card. Auto-lock can now wait up to 24 hours, or you can set it to only lock when the browser closes. This was a user feature request, and we love getting those. There are four new themes: Jazz Age, Departures, Ben Day and Turnstile, for 20 in all, and 21 when you count the special edition. As always, Sidecar is free and open source, with no tracking and no analytics, ever.

Would you believe it? Sidecar is back on Firefox Add-ons! The listing stalled at 1.10 for weeks while newer versions waited in review. Version 1.15.1 sailed right through this afternoon, in what appeared to be ten seconds! Now Firefox has everything Chrome added since: 16 themes, a full-tab composer, alt text on images, polls, and several improvements to the wallet interface. Installs from the store update automatically again.

Sidecar 1.15 is live on the Chrome Web Store. Four new themes: Wabi-sabi, Ukiyo-e, Constellation and Mycelium. Film Noir is recut in black and white. The Accounts tab gains On this day, a line of history for the date. Send now shows a pasted invoice before you pay it, and any payment of 10K sats or more takes a second press. Relay handling is improved, with added redundancy so profile data doesn’t get dropped. Client, relays, wallet: every handoff performed seamlessly. It looks easy, but that’s part of the act.
