Setting up a full node with electrum just takes forever, unless you have a fast 2TB SSD. We should do better than this.

For BitAxe pooled mining (not solo), what convenient solutions are there? (with convenient small-amount payout) #bitaxe #asknostr

One insight I haven't seen explained so far (related to the filter debate, bitcoin node tx relay): Tx relay by nodes have two goals: 1. propagate a Tx to nodes that eventually could mine them into blocks 2. propagating to all nodes, in order: - so they have the txs in their mempool, which speeds up block propagation - so they can have a more accurate fee estimation from their mempool - so they see it early if it's a Tx affecting their wallet. For spam avoidance, it would be nice to filter spam for 1. But the trick is, it is the SAME mechanism for both purposes! Filtering creates MORE HARM in 2. than benefit for 1. Besides, the benefit is also very limited as there are non-filtering nodes. @l0rinc

Filter don't work, but there is one situation where running Knots makes sense: if you are a miner. Sub-consensus filtering at the propagation node level adds 0 obstacle: the transactions you filter will end up in the blockchain (and in your node) regardless. That's one reason for me not to run Knots as a Node Runner. However, if you are a miner, and filtering out blocks (by running Knots or in other ways), I salute you! This action adds a minute obstacle in the way of spam transactions (another miner will include it), at the expense of some small amount of revenue given up by you. Running Knots as a node runner: 0 effect Running Knots as a miner: Minor positive effect.
