Kuna changamoto kubwa tatu kwenye blockchain: usalama, decetralization yani mtandao usiodhibitiwa na mtu mmoja, na uwezo wa kufanya kazi haraka na kuprocess miamala mingi zaidi (scalability). Shida ni kwamba ukiongeza nguvu upande mmoja, mara nyingi unaharibu upande mwingine. Mfano, Ukiifanya blockchain iwe ya haraka zaidi, mara nyingi usalama au hali ya kuwa decentralized hupungua. Kwa nini hili ni tatizo? Kwa sasa blockchains zina uwezo mdogo wa kushughulikia miamala. Bitcoin inashughulikia kama 5 transactions kwa sekunde, Ethereum ni karibu 18, lakini Visa inaweza kufanya maelfu ya transactions kwa sekunde. Kwa hiyo ili blockchain itumike na watu wengi duniani, inatakiwa iwe haraka, nafuu, na rahisi kutumia bila kupoteza usalama au decentralization Trilemma yenyewe iko hivi 1.Decentralization Blockchain haidhibitiwi na mtu mmoja, kampuni, au serikali.
