In #privacy news, I've just learned that Google pulled down some kind of Italian blog about the Latin Mass. A couple of quick thoughts: 1. Why would Google want to censor religious news and discussion? What's in it for them? 2. How easy would it be to do a mass migration of blog articles for a site like that? Assuming they have a backup of their content, is there any way for them to post all of that content as articles to Nostr (without manually posting each one)? 3. Alternatively, moving forward, do we have any kind of tools that allow for Nostr back-up posting of blog articles? I know I've seen similar for Twitter notes, but has anyone built something similar for Nostr? #asknostr
I know I'm a little late to the party here, but forgive me. I'm just discovering #Reticulum for the first time now. Last night, I watched this video on YouTube about a guy named Juraj sending sats with a LoRa broadcast, using the Reticulum protocol and cashu. If I understand everything correctly, that broadcast is encrypted, so there's little threat of the tokens being stolen. As long as the cashu mint is still up and running, the recipient gets his sats and can convert them back to LN or even standard BTC thereafter. Super cool!
#Meshtastic & #Reticulum nerds, I'm thinking about getting a bunch of cheap devices and playing with both protocols. If I've understood things correctly, Meshtastic works more like a radio in that each device itself is what has an 'identity' and that your phone app merely helps you to access any messages that come through. Thus, if some friends and I wanted to test out Meshtastic, we'll each need our own LoRa devices, even if all at the same office or residence. For Reticulum, the RNode device relays messages, but your identity is actually tied to Sideband or whatever software you're using. So in that case, we could get away with a single RNode device on a single property but have different mobile devices with Sideband. At least, for testing purposes when everyone is within reasonable range of the device. Am I on the right path so far? #asknostr
I'm thinking about getting into LoRa. It seems like a cool hobby, and I'd like to connect with other enthusiasts as I travel. From a brief, initial search, I'm seeing Lorawan and Meshtastic, with the latter looking like the more decentralized option. For LoRa nerds, what are some budget nodes you'd recommend for a total newbie? (I have near zero idea how to solder or setup electronics components from scratch.) And just as importantly, what frequency should I prioritize? For reference, I spend most of my time in Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, etc.). #asknostr #meshtastic #LoRa @shortwavesurfer2009
Which web clients will allow me to sign in with Amber on my phone? I tried scanning the QR on Coracle and approved the login on Amber. Yet, nothing happened on the Coracle side thereafter. Any other web clients I could temporarily log into when borrowing a computer and want to browse and post to Nostr? #asknostr
What #BTC and #XMR options exist for micro-lending like Kiva.com? #asknostr
I've asked this question a few times over the years, on various platforms, but still haven't found a solid answer: What iPod alternatives exist today? And which will sync with some kind of FOSS equivalent to iTunes? I'd love to listen to a dozen or so albums and also keep some podcasts synced up but would prefer not to carry my mobile phone around all the time. Anyone seen any decent solutions out there? If possible, it'd be great to avoid the Apple ecosystem. #asknostr
I think it's time for another cup of coffee, a chapter or two of a good book, and some quiet jazz.
I've always admired folks that know how to grow, raise, and harvest their own food. Hopefully, I can settle down one day and do something similar. In the meantime, anybody else homestead, hunt, or otherwise produce their own nutrition? Stories? Pics? View quoted note →
A lot has changed in Western education in the last century. A number of those changes have been for the better (ending widespread corporal punishment, for example), but many other changes we could probably do without (think, Common Core). #education image
I've always enjoyed the odd story about curious characters that have been different from the rest of us. The adventures of Petro Zailenko are no different. Born in Russia, Petro ended up in California under dubious circumstances, and he eventually fled into the woods to avoid immigration authorities. He spent the rest of his life living as a hermit in the forests of northern California.
