I've been thinking about hashtags and how they can be improved upon for discoverability and finding content that you like and want to see.
However, I think the big problem currently is that hashtags get abused and people stuff them into notes that have nothing to do with the hashtag.
I don't have the greatest technical understanding of Nostr and web-of-trust, though I conversed with Maple and it seems like utilizing WoT is a possible way to achieve better hashtags. So tagging WoT and Nostr experts

How would it work conceptually? Perhaps some sort of tag endorsement? Essentially a user creates a list saying they trust X npub to use Y hashtag legitimately. When searching hashtags, the results get filtered to within N-degrees of your trust network. Or possibly, also assigning a trust score to the note based on how many people in your graph claim the tag's usage to be legit.
I think it could be important that reputations are rated on a per-tag basis, rather than the entire npub. For example, npub Alice is considered legit for hash-meme but not hash-bitcoin.
I also had the thought of how introducing a monetary proponent could function, perhaps like a staking situation. Alice wants her note to be discovered on a "premium hashtag" so she stakes 50 sats and the sats are held. People in Alice's extended WoT can then interact with her note and if the note receives a certain number of flags in say 24hrs from deemed reputable npubs, Alice loses the sats. If all is good and people deem her note to not be spam, she gets the sats back.
I wanted to get this idea out and see if it's actually decent? Though I don't have the knowledge to figure out how this would all work, and if it could even work ๐
