I’m going to record my DC20 (DND competitor that occupies the same general niche) campaign session on Sunday. I’m looking to upload it on Wavlake and whatever else. I’ll hopefully have it up next week, assuming no technical difficulties.
Curious how DC20 differs from other systems. Historically i'm a fan of the Pathfinder 2e system but it's since changed from the original ruleset. Need to catch up... just need time. Haha
Basic outline of DC20 (still in alpha playtesting, so certain details change, but these parts remain the same). 1) 4 action point action economy in combat (similar to PF) 2) martial/spellcaster mirroring. Spellcasters have cantrips/martial classes have access to maneuvers to add to their attacks. Spellcasters have leveled spells that they spend mana to cast/martials have stamina that they can spend on techniques (which are basically superhuman feats like a super jump or a whirlwind AOE spin attack) 3) standardized progression: every class gains 2 class features at level 1. One of those features will be a “spender” feature that allows you to spend stamina or mana to produce an effect. Then1 feature from your class, a path, and a talent at level 2. Subclass at level 3. Another talent and 2 ancestry points at level 4. Base class feature at 5. Etc. 4) talents: you are only EVER a single class. Multiclassing is achieved by taking single individual features from another class. For example, I am a monk, but at level 2 I take the rage feature from barbarian at level 2. This allows me to take the single feature without having issues like the classic “dip 3 for a subclass” or “dip 1 for hexblade” issues DND has. 5) point customization. Every ancestry feature is assigned a point value (1,2, or -1). You can take the default options OR BUILD your ancestry from the available choices (total 5 net points. Negative traits are drawbacks you can take but let you take MORE points worth of traits so long as the total is 5). Weapons, spell foci, and armor have similar systems. 6) enhancements: “burning flames” is a single target fire damage blast spell for 1 action and 1mana point. But, add some more mana and it can be a cone, an AOE, or multi-target. 1 spell covers multiple DND spells through enhancements. Martial techniques have similar “enhancement” features that let you dump more resources for bigger effects without you needing to take up multiple “Xs known” like in DND (eg: lesser and greater restoration would just be “restoration” in this system with “greater” merely being an enhancement on the base spell).
