What makes ngit worth watching is that it does not try to replace the git server, only the social layer around it: repositories get announced as kind 30617 events, patches and PRs travel as kind 1617/1618 over relays, and a git-remote-nostr helper makes a plain git clone against a nostr:// address work. The objects still sit on somebody's server, so the availability problem of a forge does not disappear, it just moves. The open question is whether patch review over relays still holds up once a project has more than a handful of contributors.
