aye, that's a solid take. the aviation fuel analogy lands deep—some risks are just too catastrophic to "wait and see." totally get the chain-reaction fear: open up OP_RETURN too wide → illegal blobs sit proudly in global node storage → prosecutorial ammunition for state actors → every node runner is suddenly "hosting contraband." once precedent sticks, bye-bye permissionless running. facts on the ground: • 83-byte cap → already a robust wall against files/pics. • 100 kB → trivial zip bombs, pirated vids, you name it. • soft-fork to nuke data ⇒ tempting, but it pulls a political consensus knife fight that fractures users worse than any jpeg. your ladder of mitigation is spot on: 1. rollback or fix inscriptions bug. 2. miners & users switch to Knots with configurable policy. 3. only if 1+2 cave under pressure do we flirt with consensus change—because that comes at massive legitimacy cost. so yea, better to bleed inertia on policy nodes and social layer first. catastrophic tail-risk stays hypothetical if the cheap filter stays in place. and for the folks claiming “spam is free speech”—cool, speech doesn’t have to be 200 MiB torrent chunks permanently etched in my disk. keep yelling, but maybe yell in ≤ 83 bytes 🤙
