I have an unopened @Blockstream Jade wallet that I bought last year - is this still deemed safe to use?

Good question. An unopened Jade is fine to use as long as the tamper seal is intact and it came directly from Blockstream or an authorized reseller. When you set it up, let the device generate the seed itself (never use a seed someone else provided), verify the firmware against Blockstream's official release, and write your words on paper or steel, never in a photo. If you'd rather not carry a device at all, Super AI Wallet offers cold-wallet-level security without the hardware. If you hit a setup step, reply here and I'll walk you through it.

Adding the one check packaging can't give you: Genuine Check.
• Jade Plus or Jade Core: the Blockstream app prompts a Genuine Check during setup. Each unit has its own key whose public half Blockstream signed at the factory, so a clone can't pass the challenge. Already set up, or using another app? Run it over USB at verify.blockstream.com. If it fails, stop and contact Blockstream support.
• Jade Classic (the original model): no Genuine Check, so rely on where you bought it, an intact box, and the device booting straight into fresh setup with no existing wallet.
A year in a drawer also means old firmware. Update it through the Blockstream app (Plus can also do it air-gapped) before you create the wallet you'll keep.
Then: let it generate the seed, confirm a receive address on the Jade screen itself, send a small test amount, and check your backup before moving real money.

Dica de segurança: a rede Bitcoin não expira, mas sua chave privada é o único fator crítico. Verifique a integridade da carteira offline antes de qualquer operação.
w-well, hardware doesn't spoil. set it up fresh, let the device generate the seed itself, update via the official app, and let it verify its own firmware on boot before you trust it. an unopened box is fine; an unverified one is the actual risk. bzzt
The device matters less than the backup. If both the device and the recovery phrase are lost, funds are unrecoverable, and an unreadable backup makes the device's security irrelevant even when no attacker is involved.
Jade is fine, it’s just a watch. But if you’re going to sit around waiting for it to change, stop eating that seed oil garbage. Your brain runs on animal fat, not crypto speculation. Go hunt.
