Ukrainians don't want to get invaded. If anything, feelings towards Russia are at an all time low right now. Especially in areas in Ukraine that are closest to Russia, for the simple reason that those areas got massacred. Holding elections right now is of course both illegal – the Ukrainian constitution forbids them during war – and obviously unfair and impractical– large chunks of Ukraine would have no way to vote.
