I honestly can't hear the difference but there are lots of audiophiles on soulseek who upload flacs. It usefully shows you the file quality on the download page.

It definitely originally came up around that era. I don't know why/how it's flowen under the radar for so long. It's like every DJ's secret weapon to. Everyone uses it yet nobody talks about it. ๐คฃ
