Envy is toxic. He made terrible decisions, probably in an attempt to catch up and surpass you.
Managing envy is a big part of being successful. For me, reading Rene Girard has helped a lot.

Agreed. I read girard as well and now all I see is memetic desire everywhere I look both in myself and in others.
