The problem with football is the object isn't self explanatory. Soccer, Hockey, golf, basketball are all very simple: THROW BALL IN HOLE. Baseball is a little more complicated: HIT BALL AND RUN TO SAFE SQUARE. Football is not like any of these because it involves physical contact, and "downs" and "rushing" and "passing" and clocks... But in the end the point of the game is: CARRY BALL PAST OTHER GUYS Once I realized this in my 30s, I could actually tolerate the game enough to figure the rest of it out and begin enjoying it. I still don't watch sports unless my kids are playing.
