Can someone explain relays to me, do I need to adjust my relays at all or should I just leave it set to the defaults that Amethyst chooses for me?
Ad do I need to pay for a relay or is that not necessary?

no one can explain Amethyst relays
not possible
relays magically bounce the bits that make this all work.
while not required to pay, there are ones that offer additional functionality for a fee. nostr.build provides paid media storage and throws in a paid relay as a perk.
no affiliation, just a user.
