Here is the breakdown: Top Sources - Twitter/X: 27 mentions (35.5%) - Includes: "verify me on nostr" posts, Jack Dorsey tweets, Elon/flight tracker debacle, Bitcoin Twitter npub sharing, censorship/deplatforming migration - Specific Influencer: 19 mentions (25.0%) - Most cited: Jack Dorsey, fiatjaf, Gigi, Odell, Snowden, JB, Jor (88 Sats), Jeff Booth, Lyn Alden, Marty Bent, Matthew Kratter, Juraj Bednar - Podcasts: 14 mentions (18.4%) - Most cited: TFTC (Odell), Citadel Dispatch (fiatjaf), RHR, What Bitcoin Did (Ben Arc), Bitcoin.Review, Bitcoin University (Matthew Kratter), New Music Nudge, Dispatch - Other Early Nostr Apps: 7 mentions (9.2%) - Damus, Bitchat, Astral, Branle Smaller Sources - GitHub/Technical: 4 (5.3%) — found via lightning research, IPFS, nostr.md, GitHub link - In-person/Word of Mouth: 4 (5.3%) — Bitcoin meetups, friends, sovereign guy - Blogs/Articles/Wikipedia: 3 (3.9%) — list articles for Twitter alternatives, Juraj Bednar blog, Wikipedia - Bluesky: 3 (3.9%) — Jack's Bluesky posts, hype comparison - Fediverse/Mastodon: 3 (3.9%) — Henry Story, Mostr bridge - Searching for Alternatives: 3 (3.9%) — age verification concerns, state apparatus critique, looking for Twitter clients - Bitcoin Events/Meetups: 3 (3.9%) — Bitcoin Atlantis, NostRiga, conference encounters - Cashu-related: 2 (2.6%) — discovered via Cashu content - App Store/F-Droid: 1 (1.3%) — Amethyst on F-Droid - Don't remember / Vague: 3 (3.9%) Key Insight The overwhelming majority found Nostr through Bitcoin-Twitter overlap (~36% direct Twitter + ~25% influencer mentions, many of which were on Twitter). This is still the nostr /bitcointwitter2 dilemma, the very thing that puts people off. It's a very specific bubble of twitter, bitcointwitter. How do you get reach out of this bubble? Jack definitely has that reach, Peter McCormack has that, Lynn Alden. But very few do. 🤔🤔🤔

my answer is fork it. make the protocol run the protocol design discussion and relay runners and app devs shun platformatizing like primal, damus and and wisp

It strikes me that the break from X and its powerful network effect, and moving to Nostr, is not dissimilar from breaking from fiat and moving to a bitcoin standard. Nostr and bitcoin are a hedge against the failing and unreliable centralized alternatives -- but not yet fully embraced, except for a few. The beauty is, every time Natalie Brunell or Larry Lepard come on Nostr whining that they just got hacked or de-platformed, they are faced with the uncomfortable truth of their hypocrisy and centralized choices. Same for every day that goes by, and the value of the fiat held and used by folks goes down -- i.e. the truth is, lots of supposed freedom money folks are also having fun staying poor! At some point, influencers will make the switch -- either because they decide to be leaders and be the change they (claim) they want to see, or the masses will move and expand the Overton window for them. Ongoing education and unconditional love are the key. We cant force change. We can only be here to forgive and lovingly accept folks when they do make the switch ... and choose the light. Love is never forced. #puravida

I'm sure you can always see someone's npub on their profile page, but I'm not exactly sure why you'll need to confirm the age of their npub as this does not necessarily matter. In a situation where you want them to proof ownership of an account, you can always request they sign a message with their private keys to prove ownership of the npub. There's always going to be fake accounts whether here or on Twitter, but at least with signature signing, you can verify authenticity here, unlike on twitter.
