i'm convinced the people who majorly move the needle on improving human life are civil engineers, computer programmers, electrical engineers, physicists, structural engineers, medical researchers etc...not politicians, nonprofit workers, or advocacy groups.

The care needed to grow those people you mentioned was most often provided mothers. Are you forgetting that crucial care related role (nurses, educators, and much more) ?

You listed people who produce value versus those who don’t.
One produces value that people will pay for and generate revenue. The other does not generate revenue and is a drain on the system. At best, this group generates rules, laws and policy to justify their continued existence.
Those that can’t produce, administrate.
The real battle is between the productive and unproductive classes.
