Can someone set up a relay to Remove any notes containing bitcoin slogans, bitcointwitter slang, price talk, detect botcoin 'memes' (bitcoin images containing slogans, orange coin icon thing... inside images). I think this could be a popular option to throw at people with The Most Common Nostr Complaint. #asknostr

I’d pay for that, probably using some popular digital money. Or better still, it just replaces the images with ones of cats.
I don't want to be mean by mentioning it again and again but it is the most common complaint about nostr. And it sort of feels like that problem is never really taken seriously. Not many clients has really thought about catering to another demographic besides bitcointwitter expats. Nos social and voyage might be the only examples I know of. The user recommendations at onboarding is probably a bigger problem than most think it is lol. imo imo Imagine having this 'no bitcoin chat' relay set up as a choice at onboarding. You're timeline might be slow, but that is actually preferable for a lot of people to a barrage of bitcoinisms.
This is a common objection and I covered it here. I don't think this reaponse is very useful. Just like the 'fillow more people' response. You're assuming the problem is with just not finding the content and interactions, but that it exists? I disagree.

presupposing everyone joins from bitcointwitter
is a silly idea

You follow 400 people and expect to have the interactions with thousands? How is that even possible without algo. You are delusional. Search by # and follow people that you have common interest in or reply to interesting posts. If you followed thousands and can’t find anything interesting, then this is not for you. Go back to TWTR.
I never said I expect to have interaction with thousands. No idea where you got that from lol. Anyway I've covered these common responses / points in the longform note lol. It's also not about me. This is the most common nostr complaint, it's not just people aren't finding their interests present here (and that is not just a matter of them not looking hard enough). They may find some posts here and there, they also want meaningful interaction around that. (There are some notable exceptions. Meshtastic, permaculture and Siamstr.) But the impression a lot of people get is that this is a bitcoin chatroom, their interests aren't currently here (in any meaningful way) and it's not likely to be here soon. Their feed is full of bitcointwitter chat. And yes they leave, back to twitter, or matrix, Reddit etc etc. And some people like me aren't just not nostr-only. I do go on twitter for Other Stuff.
But your feed would be improved 200% πŸ₯³ Not but seriously. I think yes you're right. The feed would be slower, almost a crawl lol. HOWEVER the problem people have isn't the quantity of posts lol. People can imagine the technical side of Nostr improving. Let's say a client that's a bit janky. That is very easy to imagine an improvement. It's far harder to imagine a whole cultural shift, like a more varied group of subcultures joining. And a feed full of bitcoin actually does give that impression. 'This place is for bitcoin chat.'
Twitter and Google Plus had similar beginnings. Timeline was full of webdev and blogging stuff and a lot of meta talk. I think Nostr could undergo a similar transformation. Then today's superstars, the Nostr developers and the Bitcoiners, will quickly fade into the background, and other stars will emerge.
It's possible. I think things are somewhat different to when twitter /Facebook first emerged tho. There's been a lot of fragmentation into fairly rigid clusters, especially with the growing interest in social moving to less publicly open private groups. It's arguably a different scenario to when twitter emerged. There's also social media fatigue (or whatever you want to call it) as a factor now. People looking at early twitter probably saw how it could very easily draw people in, how subcultures can start forming and flowing there. Lots more options now. Lots more of a sense of balkanised groups. Or something? I still think it's possible (and has actually already happened to some extent with Meshtastic, permaculture, siamstr.) it's just perhaps not the same circumstances
There is a relay that is public and filters out all bitcoin and bicoiner content… But I can’t find it off the top of my head. I had an issue finding countries.fiatjaf.com as a country filter relay. I think we need better relay directory / discover / sharing / understanding than we have now. So much of the relay lists are just about uptime and location…. Maybe if it’s paid or not.
Ah there's a lot to block lol, slogans and price chat, 'memes' etc etc I imagine it's quite difficult. Maybe one day there will be some sort of intelligent filtering of this. I imagine people would like some exceptions like, there are some people who post interesting bitcoin dev stuff, so maybe it's not best as a relay thing a anyway πŸ€” I dont know lol
You can experiment with this now by adding Bitcoin and other keywords to a mute keyword list in certain apps. I know Damus offers this and I believe as a reference app Amethyst likely has an option. I would be curious to hear about your or anyone else’s experience trying this out. Does it solve the problem? If not what else is missing, needed etc. feel free to dm me with the results.
