I agree to both of these. And it's NOT just a username unless I have my nips mixed up (wouldn't be the first time). It's a method of verification and identification that verifies control of an Internet domain or resource.

Sorry but you're full of crap lol! It's not pointless at all. It may be unnecessary for most people. But not pointless for everyone.
