A short #nostr love story: Yesterday i commented a post from @Matthew Kratter by sharing my goal of finally setting up my own #bitcoin node. I mentioned being about 100,000 sats away from that goal as the last thing missing was a 2TB ssd. Immediately after posting a kind anonymous nostrich zapped me 50k right away and thuss cut the distance to go in half within seconds. Today a hord of supporting plebs joined together and zapped me missing 50k. I never dreamed of such a shit ton of support just by mentioning my goal 😱 Huge thanks to all the awesome nostriches who helped me achieve my goal in under 24 hours 🤯🙏 Thank you @Logen @LN⚡Server @npub160cx...pad5 @Deleted Account @BitcoinSandy @ภ๏รtг๏ภคยt I hope i didn’t miss anyone 😅 The missing ssd is on it’s way towards it’s new home and the mini pc is ready to be setup. 💪 Will share the progress and likely some questions that occur along the way 😅 Such an awesome day … so blessed 🙏🥹🫂💜 image View quoted note →

Lucky 💪big up to the generous nostriches! Now who wants to sponsor my new drive, I’m still stuck on 1TB 🥹😅
You have a lot more control over how things are set up and run. You learn a TON in the process and you will be a more sovereign and knowledgeable noderunner. You are not trusting any 3rd parties with precompiled packages, etc.
Thanks! I currently have the Start9 OS but was willing to upgrade to a DIY. I’ll check your info and see if it helps me
One of the things I have found while using S9 OS. You can not control your keys. You have to get the Backup from and for the system’s. What happens if S9 (as company) stop working or I loss my hardware? How could I force close my channels and recover my fund on-chain? (And what “chain” if I do not have any key). I mean.. obviously those hypothetical situations are very unlikely but I don’t wanna wait it to happen to worry about it.
