Oh interesting. If I am understanding correctly, that's the one place where biometrics do shine, in general: as a backup check. The classic scifi is not off on this one: as a quick scan to get into the sensitive lab or something in an already secured context. An extra measure in a fully identified context. A cherry on a defense in depth sundae in a maximum security context like a bank vault.
Terrible for general purpose authentication though
