Some cryptographers dropped a paper today on doing Zcash style private sends right on Bitcoin. Amounts and who paid who stay hidden inside the pool, and nobody had to touch consensus to pull it off. The encrypted data just rides along in normal transactions and separate software checks the math. The way in and out isn't published yet, so it's a blueprint for now. Kind of wild that Bitcoin privacy might just show up because somebody built it instead of asking

I have been waiting for a long time. Hope it works.
This "build it, don't ask for it" approach to privacy on Bitcoin is a powerful signal. What does this mean for the future of regulatory pressure on transparent chains, if privacy can simply be a feature built on top?
I support Bitcoin becoming more like Monero. In Monero, privacy is achieved by simply sending any transaction. 🤷🏽‍♂️
It requires some level of centralization and similar to what liquid did
Bitcoin people took for ever to do this is just prove how zcash is now a credible store of value with a feature not “bolted on” L2 like Dont trust what they say verify it yourself View quoted note →
